Matt is a jazz trumpeter and a recent graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he studied with teachers including Tom Walsh, Steve Fishwick and Miguel Gorodi, graduating with an MMus and MPerf.

Alongside his studies, Matt has built a career as a freelance trumpeter, performing regularly at some of London's best-loved jazz venues, including Ronnie Scott's, The 606 Club and The Vortex Jazz Club. His trio is currently the resident band for the Tate Modern Jazz Programme, and he writes and releases original music with his band, Orchard, which has been featured on Jazz FM and BBC Radio 3. He also manages Felonious Funk, a seven-piece funk and soul function band that plays weddings, parties and corporate events across the UK.

Teaching is something Matt finds just as rewarding as performing. He has taught in secondary schools as well as privately, guiding students of every level - from complete beginners picking up the trumpet for the first time, to those preparing for music college auditions — through the ABRSM exam syllabus and beyond. He holds an enhanced DBS certificate and a full driving licence.

Matt believes the best way to learn an instrument is to fall in love with playing it, so his lessons are built around encouragement, curiosity and plenty of playing time. Whatever a student's goals - passing an exam, learning their favourite tunes, or working towards a career in music — he tailors lessons to help them get there and enjoy every step of the way. Learning with Matt through Rythmico, students can expect friendly, energetic lessons focused on building skills and confidence on the trumpet.
